KPMG Women’s PGA Championship: a world-class event

The second major of the year for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) will be played during the month of June. The 61st KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is scheduled to play June 11 thru 14. The newly branded event will be held in a new venue, the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York.

Field with only the best

During this week the field will be completed with a total of 156 players that will battle their way up the cut line. Active LPGA Hall of Fame members, past winners of the LPGA Champions and professionals who have won an LPGA major championship have a secured spot in the event. The members of the European and United States Solheim Cup Teams in 2013 like Caroline Hedwall, Charley Hull, Morgan Pressel, Carlota Ciganda and Gerina Piller will also be a part of the field.

The tournament allows a maximum of two sponsor’s invites; one of these exemptions has been granted to the 17-year old Canadian player, Brooke M. Henderson. The second one was given to Gwladys Nocera.

Indubitably Inbee Park will be a favorite starting the week as the defending champion this year. Besides, she’s one of the only three players that have conquered two titles this season and her putting stroke is getting better week after week.

In last years edition Park sank a birdie on the 17th hole then came through with a crucial 15-foot par putt on the final hole to force a playoff with Brittany Lincicome at 11-under par. The South Korean player successfully defended her title in the then called LPGA Championship, defeating Lincicome with a par on the first tiebreaker hole.

LPGA Top Picks

1.     Brittany Lincicome

3.     Inbee Park

4.   Karrie Webb

5.     Anna Nordqvist
