The LPGA Tour is back in Michigan for the Meijer LPGA Classic presented by Kraft. The Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids will host the tournament July 23 thru 26. During the inaugural edition in 2014, rookie Mirim Lee tied the lead at 14-under and defeated Inbee Park after a two-hole playoff to conquer her first career win.
The Blythefield Country Club was opened in 1929 and is considered to be one of the most beautiful courses in the Midwest. It has hosted the 1953 Western Amateur, the 1961 Western Open, and the 2005 Western Junior. Dale Morey, Arnold Palmer, and Rickie Fowler won these three events.
Morgan Pressel and Kris Tamulis will be two of the players to follow during this week in Michigan. Pressel grew up in the Detroit area and feels very comfortable while playing in her childhood grounds.
Collegiate golfers Cat Peters (University of Michigan) and Kaitlin Park (Northwestern University) will be part of field this week. They both qualified after playing the Meijer LPGA Collegiate Invitational, an 18-hole tournament to fill the sponsor exemption spots.
