The LPGA Tour starts their mini Asian-swing this week as they head to Thailand for the Honda LPGA. The Siam Country Club will host the event once again February 25th thru February 28th. This will be the first tournament of the season with No-Cut criteria therefore players will have the opportunity to improve their position on the leaderboard throughout the weekend.
The defending champion of the event this week will be Amy Yang who during the 2015 edition had to hold off Stacy Lewis, Yani Tseng and Mirim Lee to hoist the trophy. The field of 69 players will feature six past champions of the tourney, which include Yang, Yani, Inbee Park, Anna Nordqvist, Suzann Pettersen and Ai Miyazato.
High ranked players like Stacy Lewis, Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson and Sei Young Kim will also take part in the event.
Course
The golf club is the first privately owned club in Thailand and was founded by Dr. Thaworn Phornprapha. The course was originally designed by Isao Mazumi and opened in 1971. The course closed from 2006 to 2007 due to a complete renovation lead by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley from the USA.
