After a four-week stretch on the road and a week off the LPGA Tour will be back in action for the 11th edition of the Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC. The tournament will be held May 19th thru the 20th at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Minjee Lee will be the defending champion this week after becoming a first time winner on tour last year at the River Course. The event went into a Monday finish after a rain delay during Sunday’s final round but Lee took a four-stroke lead after the delay. Minjee stumbled on her first hole as play resumed early Monday but parred the rest of holes to hoist the trophy at 15-under par, just two strokes ahead So Yeon Ryu.
This tournament was originally known as the LPGA Michelob ULTRA Open until 2009. The event was created thirteen years ago in 2003 and held for seven seasons but was absent in 2010 and 2011, returning for the 2012 season as the Kingsmill Championship.
Annika Sörenstam holds the tournament scoring record at 19-under with which she won in 2008, meanwhile Cristie Kerr sets the record on being the only multiple winner with victories in 2005, 2009, and 2013.
Other past champions in the field for this week are Se Ri Pak, Lizette Salas, Karrie Webb and Suzann Pettersen, who this week makes her return after missing three tournaments due to back spasms.
